My Journey to Accelerated Education: Navigating the Board of Governors Program

My Journey to Accelerated Education: Navigating the Board of Governors Program - Written by Alexis Carter, January 1, 2024

Embarking on the pursuit of my college degrees became an unexpected but empowering journey that transformed not only my professional prospects but also my perspective on education. This venture took an unforeseen turn when my daughter began her college journey in '22, sparking a newfound sense of responsibility to earn my associate’s and bachelor's degrees.

Fueled by this personal mission, I entered a state of panic, realizing the urgency to complete my degrees before my daughter did. In this quest for expediency, I stumbled upon Sophia Learning, Coursera, and Straighterline – online platforms that promised flexibility and accessibility. Countless nights of research led me to discover the key to fast-tracking my education.

What makes this journey even more remarkable is that it unfolded while I was healing from a broken knee. Starting with zero credits in May, I pushed through challenges and earned 60 credits by July, graduating with the Pierpont class of December 23.

Motivated by my experiences, I decided to share a step-by-step guide for individuals navigating the Board of Governors program at Pierpont Technical and Community College. The guide aimed to help others follow in my footsteps, get an Associate’s degree and graduate fast.
